CLASSIFICATION: Faculty, Full Release
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Provide leadership, administrative support and a coordinated
operational system for distance learning and instructional technology.
2. Help faculty and academic leadership properly use technology in teaching and learning.
3. Promote the advantages and options for using technology in teaching.
4.
Utilize faculty and staff to plan and create pedagogically sound
content for distance learning and technology-supported instruction.
5. Assist academic departments in the identification of instructional technology needs.
6. Support instructional technology and distance learning planning within academic departments.
7. Guide faculty towards the resources they need to improve pedagogy and curriculum through the appropriate use of technology.
8. Coordinate with technology-related departments to get instructional technology and distance learning needs met.
9. Develop processes and procedures to make the use of technology in the classroom and at a distance work smoothly.
10. Evaluate the quality of individual and institutional uses of technology for learning.
11. Assure that Learning College Principles are followed in the areas of distance learning and instructional technology.
12.
Create learning opportunities in the areas of distance learning and
instructional technology and serve as liaison to areas dealing with
professional development.
13. Manage distance learning and instructional technology budgets where appropriate.

Collaborate with academic and service areas to establish a system that
facilitates the use of technology for learning, while incorporating it
into the full academic program. This system includes the scheduling of
distance learning classes, ordering of materials and equipment, and
faculty learning about distance teaching and use of technology in the
classroom.
15. Collaborate with all relevant areas to assure
teaching needs are met. Be a liason between faculty members and
technology areas, helping each to understand and respect each other's
needs so as to provide the best learning opportunities for students.
16. Organize, lead and/or participate in college teams that deal with distance learning and instructional technology.
17.
Supervise personnel assigned to distance learning and instructional
technology and lead the unit in providing excellent services,
collaborating effectively with multiple units/departments, and
continuously improving quality.
18. Work with distance learning
and instructional technology staff, in collaboration with all related
areas, to determine long-range plans.
19. When related to distance
learning and instructional technology, participate in teams,
committees, and governing bodies, to include college-wide strategic
planning.
20. Provide leadership and direction for departmental
and college involvement with local and statewide partnerships and
organizations dealing with issues of distance learning and
instructional technology.
21. Develop relationships with area high schools and with appropriate administrators at other colleges and universities.
22.
Create linkage with non-credit or other institutional initiatives that
promote distance learning and instructional technology.
23. Use
research and benchmarking to identify trends, innovations and emerging
technologies related to teaching and learning with technology.
24. Facilitate communications concerning distance learning and instructional technology.
25.
Assist the President, Provost and Dean of Instructional Support and
Interdisciplinary Studies in the preparation of reports, applications
and other documentation related to distance learning and instructional
technology.
26. Support the President and Provost in the areas of
distance learning and instructional technology, while reporting
directly to the Dean of Instructional Support and Interdisciplinary
Studies.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Masters degree or above in the area taught by the faculty director.
2. A minimum of five years experience in using varied technology in a classroom setting and for distance education.
3. A minimum of two years of demonstrated, successful leadership and administrative experience.
4. An understanding of hardware, software, and functional capabilities of technologies for distance and classroom education.
5. An understanding of adult learning and of diverse, innovative teaching methods and strategies.
6. Must have strong communications skills (written, verbal and interpersonal).
7. Ability to work with a diverse student population and with a wide variety of colleagues.
8. Ability to work collaboratively across departments to achieve shared goals.
9. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, individually and for the college.
This is an excellent job description! I can think of nothing to add.
This is ambitious! Here's my 2 cents...you know I would have something to say!
To me #1 and #18 seem to say similar things - perhaps they should be developed into one....and that should be the #1 duty!
Also #19 and #16 also seem to say the same thing.
I would think that having 26 outlined responsibilities may be a bit too much.
Finally, #10 - "Evaluate the quality of individual....uses of technology for learning." Hmmm...does the evaluation hold any weight? Do you have any leverage with this one or is this a responsibility with no authority.
So when does this start??? Do you want this to be a faculty position? Sounds very administrative to me.
